The Cardiac Care Network of Ontario (CCN) was established in 1990 to help address problems in the delivery of adult cardiac surgery in the province. Since then, CCN and the cardiac centres have worked together to help patients receive timely, equitable and appropriate access to advanced cardiac services.
CCN's patient registry is widely recognized as an effective way to facilitate and monitor access to cardiac surgery. As a result of this success, expansion of the registry began in 2000 to include cath-lab procedures (cardiac cath and angioplasty/stents). Public reporting on access to cath-lab procedures began in May 2002. As a result, the system for adult advanced cardiac services has been made more accountable to patients, other health-care providers and funders.
These tables show how many adult patients have undergone specified procedures at each of Ontario's hospital cardiac centres.
It also shows how long patients usually wait for each procedure and whether their waiting time falls within a recommended time range. This information is provided to help doctors and patients in the referral process for surgical treatment of heart disease.
There are notes provided with the table explaining the information. All patients accepted for surgery by a heart surgeon are registered on the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario's (CCN) computer system. Waiting times are monitored until patients have surgery. If you have questions about a centre's statistics, please check with the centre.
